Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Hello,

I am writing this small letter to ask if it is possible to appeal my PSYC 100 mark during my first year of university at Queen's. (2017 - 2018 year) Before attending Queen's University, I had very extreme mental health issues. I suffered from major depression, and took prescription prozac in an attempt to assist myself in recovering. After taking it for about a year, I stopped right before starting my journey at Queen's as it worked so well I didn't think I needed it. Fast forward to my first year, I was hit extremely hard by the emotional issues I had dealt with the year before. Navigating school for me was extremely difficult to grasp at first, especially since my family and I are not very financially stable with my single parent losing her job in recent times. On top of the financial stress in my life and not being able to afford school, I had to juggle the new work load I was given and learn how to adapt to new learning methods. Not to mention, while being away from my loved ones. I struggled very heavily first year in many ways listed above, which prevented me from being able to put all of my focus and effort in my courses. Thankfully, I feel as though I pushed through with 4/5 of my courses - however, the large amount of information in PSYC 100 was very difficult to retain with everything I had to stress about. My focus and dedication weakened as my psychological health deteriorated and my body physically gained weight and struggled as well. I hope that this year is much better, but I do not want my mark in this course to hurt my future which I try to work so hard for. I hope it is possible to drop this mark and raise my GPA so that I can focus fully on my course loads during the year as I work on my health this summer. Thank you so much for the consideration and the opportunity to attend this school. My personal pains have nothing to do with the fact that this school has been very accommodating to me, especially when I broke my foot during October (making it hard to attend my psych classes during the year) and accepting. Thank you.
