Petition Letter: Dear Dr. Johanne Bénard,
My name is Madison Bryer and I am currently required to withdraw from the Faculty of Arts and Science, for the upcoming school year. As stated in my 21-day appeal, there a number of circumstances that have led to this point.
Like stated in my previous appeal, my mother had informed me about the police investigation into my step father, around the time I had received the letter. Unfortunately, that was also during the time I was retaking CHEM 281 online. Due to the severity of the letter, I was not sure who I could tell or talk to. Not only did this news damage a lot of the progress I had made, but I also kept these emotions to myself. Similar to my first semester of second year, I found it extremely hard to focus for long periods of time and retain a lot of information. I believe my inability to complete this class was largely effected by the news I had received this summer.
Although it may appear I am not ready to return to Queen¿¿s, I believe I have created a plan that will help me move forward successfully. I have met with a councillor on a number of occasions, however, I believe in order for me to succeed at Queen¿¿s I need to speak with someone more frequently. Since my father has been made aware of this issue, he will be helping make sure I stay on track. I will set up a system with a councillor and my father, to ensure that I see a councillor weekly or bi-weekly, depending on what is recommended. I have seen the positive impact that the Queen¿¿s Student Wellness Services have had on a number of my friends, and I am committed to continuing to seek help at Queen¿¿s.
In addition to continuing to access personal support, I have created an academic plan that will allow me to succeed. I would like to continue in the Geological Sciences department, however, I wish to switch into the General Program instead of the Honours Program. I believe although Life Science classes were interesting, they proved to not be the right fit for me. Taking a more general program will allow me to take the time to focus on my studies while taking classes that I believe will be the right fit.
If granted my appeal, I believe I have set up a schedule that I will be able to enrol in immediately. In the upcoming fall semester I would take GEOL 107, GEOL 200, and GEOL 232. In the winter semester I would take GEOL 104, GEOL 235, and GEOL 249. This part time course load will allow me the time to continue personal support, while focusing on my studies.
I believe returning to Queen¿¿s this fall will be most beneficial to me. I understand that I will still be on academic probation, however, I feel having the opportunity to prove myself will allow me to be the most successful.

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: My academic plan is to continue to access personal support on a regular basis, while setting up a part time course load that will allow me the time to strive academically. I would like to continue in the Geological Sciences department, however, I wish to switch into the General Program instead of the Honours Program. I believe although Life Science classes were interesting, they proved to not be the right fit for me. Taking a more general program will allow me to take the time to focus on my studies while taking classes that I believe will be the right fit. If granted my appeal, I believe I have set up a schedule that I will be able to enrol in immediately. In the upcoming fall semester I would take GEOL 107, GEOL 200, and GEOL 232.
