Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean (Studies),
My name is Warsame Raghe. I am 21 years old, and I should be starting my third year at Queen's University. I attended Queen's University during the 2014-2015 school year, as well as the 2015-2016 school year. During the 2015-2016 school year, my grades were poor. I believe that I have extenuating circumstances to explain why my grades were poor. My father's health was deteriorating at a rapid rate during the second half of the school year, and right before the exam period he had a stroke and passed away. The psychological trauma and the heartache of losing a father put me in a really bad position and considering it was so close to the final exam period, I was not in the right headspace to complete my exams, and the grades reflected that. As a result, I was told that I would be required to withdraw for three years, due to my probation status the previous year.
For the past two school years, I have been serving this required to withdraw. It's been two years, and I believe that I am ready to come back to school, I believe that although I am to blame for the poor grades, there was an extenuating circumstance. I didn't make an excuse for it, and instead, for the past two years, I have been away from the school. The reason why I believe that the third year of my probation should be withdrawn is that I believe that these past two years have changed me. I believe that I have overcome my family's problems, and overcome with dealing with my father's death, and I believe I have changed in the process. If I was to return to school, there would be nothing lingering, or anything that would hinder my progress, as I believe that this would start a new chapter for me.
I am aware that usually the third year of a required to withdraw are served, however, I believe that the two years I have served is more than enough. I've also completely paid for everything that was owed in my SOLUS account, and my number one focus is now to return to school and complete my degree at Queen's University.

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: In order for me to succeed, I need to have a plan. Although I strongly believe that I can handle the academic rigors of Queen's University, I have been away from the school for some time, so I would still need to have a transition. During the 2018-2019 school year, I plan to take full use of the services offered at the school, library etc. This includes the Queen's Student Academic Success Services. Taking full advantage of these tools such as the Writing Centre, dealing with stress at University, time management will help me better prepare this time around, and it would help me understand that there is a support system there, should I choose to pursue it.
I also plan on taking a lighter course load (80), that would also help me transition back into Queen's University in a smooth way. Although I believe that I have fully overcome my personal problems, I strongly believe that there is always someone I can talk to, which is why I plan to conduct regular meetings with a personal counselor at the school during the 2018-2019 school year just so I can be able to separate my personal problems and have it not interfere with my academics.
In conclusion, I strongly believe that Queen's University is the school for me, I believe that a moment in my life cost me a couple years, however, I take complete responsibility for it, and I believe I have come out the other side for the better, and I am now completely focused on finishing up my education specifically at Queen's University, and I hope the Associate Dean can grant me another chance to return to school during the 2018-2019 school year.
