Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: I am appealing my failure of Psychology 100, an online summer course in which I was enrolled this summer. I suffer from major depression and anxiety, which were exacerbated in the 2017-18 academic year when I was a first-year student, as a result of my being sexually assaulted on campus. Because of all of this, I dropped 4 full-year courses and one half-year course and completed only 4 half-year courses. I enrolled in two courses this summer in order to make up some of the courses I dropped.

Unfortunately, my depression worsened again this summer, and while I was able to complete one of my two courses, I was unable to complete the other despite my best efforts because my depression interfered with my ability to concentrate, complete everyday activities and caused me to suffer a lack energy. I completed all of the coursework in the Psychology 100 course up to the mid-term exam but wasn¿¿t able to write it or the final exam for the reasons I have explained. I missed the drop date for this second course because up to that point in time I was still hoping to complete it. As s a result I failed the course.

I am under the care of a psychiatrist who has optimized my treatment, and I have attached a Physician¿¿s Note from him that explains the nature of my health problem, how it affected my academic performance and how my conditioned will be managed in the future. I have every reason to believe that I will be able to cope with my workload in the fall semester and have a successful academic year.
