Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: To Whom It May Concern:

I am writing to you today to request that PSYC 202 be dropped from my transcript. Earlier in this summer, I was granted my appeal to extend the Incomplete I was given in PSYC 202, due to a particularly bad bout of illness that stopped me from completing the course material.
My initial illness, which is a chronic condition that is episodic in nature, worsened over the course of the fall semester. I was unfortunately forced to miss a lot of class time as I was in and out of doctor¿¿s appointments. I was granted an incomplete as I was so unwell, and was struggling to keep up with the few classes I was enrolled in at the time. I was even forced to drop BIOL 102 due to my health.
Since I received that extension, I spoke to my professor, Dr. Nelson, who strongly suggested that I repeat the course, rather than completing the course over the summer. Dr. Nelson stated that I had not completed 70 of the course material due to my absences, and that finishing this without instruction or weekly tutorials would be a very difficult task. Further, Dr. Nelson informed me that there would not be any instructors present on campus to support me over the summer academically. He suggested that I repeat the course during the fall term.
As PSYC 202 is a required course for my program, and an integral course for my career, I want to not only succeed in the class, but also gain a comprehensive understanding of the material. I feel that due to the fact that I would be having to teach myself the missed material, with no teacher present to assist me, I would not have the opportunity to truly perform proficiently. As Dr. Nelson stated, I was missing material due to my absence from 70 of the course, therefore I feel that repeating the course is the best alternative to trying to piece together missing information and assignments.
The office should have my previously submitted medical documentation on file, if necessary I am happy to supply further documentation.
