Petition Letter: To the school official that will be handling my appeal,

I am writing to you in regards to my academic standing and the requirement that I withdraw for a year. As well as appeal the 21-day deadline for action to be taken on that standing. My academic standing is solely based on the 1 course I had stayed in last year, GNDS 120.

The reason for my poor standing is based on previous personal health-related issues that had forced me to withdraw from school and go home. The reason being was that I could not handle the financial and academic pressures at the time.

I had recently been diagnosed with ADHD based off of some answers from about 2-3 questionnaires my doctor had me fill out which was around mid to the end of July and had already had me on 50 Mg of ADHD medication for school in September.I soon began to realize the toll the medication took on my emotional state. I felt as though the medication had made me more of a mess instead of helping in keeping me levelled which is what it was supposedly meant to do. I soon came to realize how much of toll the extremities in the shift of the prescription had taken on my emotional state when doing daily tasks had become clouded with anxiety. I eventually fell into a depressive state so I decided it was best for me to go back home and stop taking the medication. Unfortunately, continuing to see my psychologist had been too costly for me so instead I tried to incorporate some more natural and less costly methods to work on myself. I began to incorporate a little bit of exercise to my week and eventually started going for daily runs to help give myself some routine. Then eventually I started working again to save for going back to school the next semester.

Initially, I was going to only take the first semester off but when the loneliness and lack of motivation to do anything returned I very quickly began to realize that I needed a full year off to work on myself. so I went back home to continue that. I had thought that I would be able to handle taking one course away from home, but could not even do that.

The reason I did not appeal this standing sooner was that I was completely unaware of it. I had left for a trip to Montreal to see my great-grandmother and relatives that I hadn't seen for a very long time when that email was sent out. And I believe that the flood of other unopened emails was why I did not notice it when I finally checked my school email. I only discovered my academic standing when I called academic advising when their offices had just recently reopened and I was calling to figure out why I could not select any courses for this term. I honestly would have written this way sooner if I knew. I truly thought I was going to be able to come back to school and paid my first, last and deposit with the money with the money I saved from the year I took off to make sure I had a place to stay at for school. As well as quit the two jobs that I was working. I closed my chapter in Markham because I think I would be going to Kingston starting September.

I believe that with the time I have already taken for myself in bettering my mental health and working on my financial stability for this school year I am now at a state where I am ready and eager to learn. Now that Ive had enough time off to repair myself I would like to fix the mess that I have made with my academic career.

I plan to

1.Take advantage of mental health professionals the school offers if I ever feel myself in need of one
2.Sticking to my regular runs
3.Taking an achievable amount of courses especially for the first semester
4.Joining more school clubs or volunteering or some sort of extracurricular activity so that I can become more involved and busy

As last minute as this is I can only BEG that you would allow me the chance to repair the damage that I've done to my transcript.Queens is and always will be my top pick for school and I am just so heartbroken by this. I have much in place for working on my future and do someday plan to become a lawyer. Yes, having dreams like that and having the transcript that I currently do make it seem unlikely, but it is only helping in pushing me to make sure I work harder from this moment forth. I am only in fear that delaying school for another year will throw me out of the rhythm for school and make it impossible to readjust. I would be so grateful if I could be given this chance
