Petition Letter

Petition Letter: After being granted an incomplete standing for 2 of my courses from last year, I was only able to complete the objectives for one of them, as I have been struggling with depression for the past 2 years, and though it seemed like a challenge I could take on, I found myself over the summer struggling to keep up with simple tasks, and was ultimately unable to dedicate the necessary time and effort to complete the course requirements in time.

I believed when I asked for the incomplete standing that I was capable of completing the necessary objective due to the amount of time I was given, but after an unfortunate event which required me going without medication and then on to a different one, I was rendered unable to maintain a concise line of work for this particular course (pols 262), as the evaluation method consisted of one large research paper and a final exam, and I was unable to dedicate myself to these. I found myself, especially after changing medications, in low energy and motivation moods, where it was hard to complete simple tasks like getting out of bed, or days where I could not focus on work for long periods of time due to self harming, unwanted or intrusive thoughts. These occurred both on the period where I was not taking any medication, and the subsequent try and error of the new medication and its different dosages.

During this time I saw a specialized physician in the department of psychiatry which I will be visiting again in the following weeks to make sure I can be at my best in the coming year, had monthly follow ups with a GP, and visited a counselor at SWS weekly.

I did manage to complete the tasks for the second course I was granted an IN standing for (phil 206), as these consisted of smaller essays that I could work on little by little on the better days.

I will be able to submit an off campus physician note by next week, and I am planing to take the second level course I need to get back on track with my credits either next semester or as an online course next summer.
