Petition Letter: Dear Dr. Johanne Bénard,
I am appealing to drop ECON 360 (Fall, 2018).
Due to unforeseen exceptional circumstances, I was unable to drop this course before the designated drop date. A diagnosis resulting in the need to undergo a medical procedure on December 3rd, 2018 has caused undue mental and physical stress. In order to mitigate some of this stress, I am requesting to drop ECON 360.
I pride myself on demonstrating my best efforts in all of my courses, as a determined and hard-working student, to which ECON 360 has not allowed me to demonstrate. Due to my diagnosis, I have been unable to perform to my full potential in my current course load, specifically ECON 360. By being given permission to drop this course, I will be able to focus my abilities more effectively on my remaining courses, while also taking necessary time to focus on my health.
I did not come across the decision to request to drop ECON 360 lightly. After much consideration, I have determined that this course would be the most effective way to alleviate some of my stress. This is due to its exceptionally stressful workload, in combination with its non-compulsory nature for my degree, it has been concluded that this path is the most worthwhile for me to pursue.
As we progress in to exam season, my priority is to alleviate as much stress as possible, in order to better focus my abilities on achieving success in as many courses as I can. Being able to drop ECON 360 will allow me to do this, while also giving me time to focus on my mental and physical wellbeing - something that is now more important to me than ever. Having to spend time travelling to appointments and procedures, while being a full-time student is now a part of my reality. And this reality has been difficult to come to terms with. However, I believe that I will be able to succeed in the remainder of my current courses should I be granted permission to drop ECON 360.
Thank you for your consideration, I look forward to hearing from you.
