To whom it may concern,
Hello, my name is Aaron Teper, I am a second-year student in Arts and Sciences majoring in Earth System Science (EGPY). I will be switching into Environmental Science (ENSC) at the end of the academic year. I believe that I have to drop GEOL 200 and that remaining in the class will impact my future academic success. The course has two major tests a 40 midterm and a 60 final. I made a mistake by not dropping at the proper deadline but at that time I had no knowledge of how I was doing. Since I had received no marks, I did not want to make a rash decision and drop the class preemptively. By the time I had received the mark of 42 for my 40 midterm it was already Nov. 6th, 4 days after the drop date. Since receiving my midterm grade I have met with an academic advisor on two separate occasions. Their involvement has been very helpful and I am thankful for their support and guidance. In these meetings, we discussed my academic plan going forward and academic options for my new degree. We also discussed an academic plan involving the scenario of me failing. If I fail this course I will need to retake it, however due to the fact that I am changing my major, I no longer have a need for the course. Retaking the class will force me to use up precious course options in my schedule, which will impact my ability to finish my degree on time. In my previous major, it was a required course but now it no longer is, and I need to take other courses to fulfill the obligations of my new major. To make up the credits in this class I will be taking CHEM 113 and 114, which are necessary requirements for my new degree. Dropping the course will allow me to stay on track with my academic plan without negatively impacting my future years at Queens. I know that I made a mistake by not acting quickly enough. In the future, I will be more diligent in managing my courses and deadlines, along with making class choices centred on my new degree. I also intend to make up the lost credits with summer courses to stay on track. I thank you for considering my appeal
