Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean of History,
I am writing this appeal request to drop HIST 305A, and be alternatively granted the course credit for the 3.0 unit equivalent, HIST 296.
I made the honest mistake during my course selection of choosing two 300 level, core seminar history courses. I am a concurrent education student, pursuing a medial in history and english. Although I have truly enjoyed both my 300 level seminar courses, I should only be enrolled in one to stay on the correct path to complete my medial. After realizing that I made a serious mistake in my course selection, I have been nothing but stressed knowing I was at fault, as well as anxious to fix my mistake. In addition, I believe there is a reason why students are only supposed to be enrolled in one300 level core seminar when completing a medial, particularly in regard to course load. It has been a challenge to balance two 300 level core seminars in addition to the english side of my medial. My education, as well as maintaining a good academic average are very important to me. As I reflect on my semester, I realize that much of my anxiety and increasing stress level has been due to my stress load in relation to balancing two 300 level core seminar history courses. In addition, I am still required to complete my concurrent education practicum. As I sit here thinking about the upcoming winter semester, I am already overwhelmed.
When I completed my course selection, I did not realize my mistake. I went into this academic year prepared to take on my second year at Queen's University. I was finding the workload quite heavy but truly didn¿¿t realize it was due to a course mistake of my own selection. I was more than halfway through the semester when I looked into options to see what I could do about this challenge. This is when I knew I had made a mistake. Right away I contacted my academic advisor and she confirmed that I had made an error and suggested that I talk to the department of history, which I did immediately following my meeting.
If you would be so kind as to grant me this appeal, I would like to enroll in HIST 243. Receiving the credit for HIST 296 instead of 305A, as well as enrolling in HIST 243 for the winter term, would ease a great amount of stress, as well as put me on the correct academic schedule for completing my medial at Queen¿¿s University.

Academic Plan: Reflecting on my first semester of second year, it was filled with stress and anxiousness. My workload was quite heavy and I was not enjoying my year due to this. When I realized I was in one too many 300 level core history seminars I knew that I had to do everything that I could, in order to correct my mistake and stay on my academic path to reach success.
I am currently enrolled in the BAH degree, completing a medial in history and english. If I were granted this appeal I would like to enroll in HIST 243 for the winter term. If this course is not available, I have found two other suitable options that would fit my degree plan and course schedule. These courses are HIST 222 or HIST 244. This new enrollment would provide me with a more manageable second semester, leading me to be more successful in my academic studies as well as enjoy the courses and life at Queen¿¿s University.
I have used the services provided by Queen¿¿s University such as SASS to improve my academic abilities. If I were to enroll in one of the history courses I have listed, I would continue using these resources to guide me to succeed academically.
