Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Dear Associated Dean Staff:
I am one of the undergraduate students in Class of 2021. This request is responsible for dropping one course which is called Physics P20.

Recently, I feel so depressed because the large amount of reviewing work and my compulsory course is very difficult for me. Last week, I just feel so confused for my reviewing plan. At the same time, the score for physics P20 which is just updated last Sunday is really bad. That gave me a very terrible feeling. I think I need to change the reviewing direction for that course, but I believe it is too late because that will affect my ongoing basis for reviewing my compulsory courses. Everyday I feel so depressed and feel bad on my mental health. After that, I tried to get help from Student Wellness but I was being told back due to the full of reservation. Under this condition, I wen to the Dunning Hall to meett with Academic Advisor Kerri Andrews to discuss my options and that I have an appointment booked with Allison Lavigne to discuss my mental health. After this discussion, I just knew this way for request. Before that, I didn¿¿t know this way for appealing. In this way, for the last year, I got the bad performance for CISC101. From that experience, I think I need to find solutions when I meet this conditions. In this way, I appeal a request to drop that course. Also, at this time, my physical conditions already feel not so good and feel depressed all the time. I think if I can drop that course, I can spend more time on preparing another courses and it is also good for my mental health.

I know the deadline already passed, but I still think I need to withdraw that. That course combined with two assignments and one final exam. Every assignment I finished very carefully and also talked to TAs to get feedback and revise that before submitting that. However, the grades for assignment released very late for the dropping deadline. For the first assignment, the grades released in 2nd November which at the dropping deadline. I got the grades for B. For that time, I just felt so confused because I revised that related TA¿¿s feedback and read carefully. In this way, I asked request for remarking my assignment. During that time, I just thought if I can work hard and follow the requirements carefully, I also can achieve a good score for that course. As a result, although that day is the last chance to drop the course, I didn¿¿t drop that. However, the grades for my second assignment released last Sunday. I got a D+. It is an unacceptable score. Because I followed the guideline and TA¿¿s early feedback to revise carefully before I submitting that and TA¿¿s early feedback also gave me the positive opinions for my hardworking. However, I totally accept I can get that score. Also, the score for my last assignment isn¿¿t changed. I also read the feedback carefully, I think I may not have a specific training for writing scientific essay. In this way, I lost mark due to some fundamental mistakes. Although I know I can argue with TAs and instructors for that score, I don¿¿t have time to do that because I have a huge amount of reviewing work need to finish. For the final exam, it will write about two essays in 1400 words which is similar with two assignments, so I think that condition is not suitable for my own level to take that course. Also, for the next year, I want to apply the exchange program, I think that score will give me a negative effect for my application.

Physics P20 is not my compulsory course. However, I also feel difficult for my compulsory course for Econ 222 and Econ 212 this term. Because that two courses in 200 level and is more complicate than 100 levels course. Due to the difficult for reviewing, I feel depressed day by day and already feel insomniac for one week. I think if I still take that course, I would change my all preparation plan and change my reviewing direction for that course. At this time, I think it is too late to do that even it will affect my compulsory courses¿¿ grades. If my compulsory courses didn¿¿t achieve the fixed grades, it will affect me to get degree in the University. I also talked that things to Economic Department Head Ian Cromb, he also suggested me to drop one course to try to maintain the good performance on my compulsory courses¿¿ final exam. Also, the mental health already be affected, so I think that may be a better choice for me.

I am so sorry for providing troubles for you to help me drop that course, please give me a chance to do that. Because this is my first time to apply that request and that term¿¿s GPA is really important for my rest of learning plans, I can promise that avoid to that mistakes in the future. Please give me a chance, thank you.

Yours sincerely,
Dang Tongbo
