Petition Letter
Petition Letter: I am appealing to drop ANAT 315 (Fall, 2018), HLTH 252 (Fall, 2018), KNPE 225 (Fall, 2018), KNPE 251 (Fall, 2018), KNPE 265 (Fall, 2018). Since this appeal is secondary to an unexpected physical injury that occurred in October after the September 2018 deadline to drop the Fall semester, I am also appealing to have this deadline waived such that I will be reimbursed my Fall 2018 tuition.
I received a concussion at the end of October 2018. It is severe to where I am unable to attend lectures and complete class work. I can only focus on reading or writing for fewer than 10 minutes at a time. I have great visual fatigue and headaches when using the computer to access course information. I am now painfully sensitive to sound levels that would routinely be encountered in hallways, classrooms, and even lecturers speaking in class. These effects have lasted through November 2018 with very gradual improvements insufficient for me to complete my Fall 2018 courses. Removing myself from school work to allow me to heal was strongly recommended and supported by my physiotherapist, my neurologist, and by my family physician, Dr. Frank Wong.
In order to achieve academic success, I plan on taking a lighter course load in the Winter 2019 term. In the Summer 2019 and the 2019/2020 school year, I will be retaking the Fall 2018 courses that I had to drop. Clearly, I am hoping for a steady and full recovery in my mental function. I plan to keep you informed if I should require additional adjustments to my future studies at Queen¿¿s University over the next few semesters.
