Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: Dear Officer,

This is a request for regrading an assignment. Test 4 from CISC 204 2018 Fall, to be more specific. I have contacted the instructor Mr. Ellis from the School of Computing for the regrading but he refused to do it since it has passed the specified time period for regrading any test in that course. I contacted the night of the last day for regrading and was not able to hand in the formal request application for regarding.

One mistake made in the marking process is the misreading of a math symbol empty sign. The person who marked my paper treated the empty sign as the greek symbol phi which resulted a huge deduction of mark from that question. I hope this can be emphasized to the person reviewing my paper later in the process.

I contacted the instructor again today and he said he cannot change my grade. Later, I consulted Mrs. Roosenmaallen, she said Art & Sci will still be able to change my grade letter. That's the reason why I am applying for this appeal.

I hope the instructor will not participate in the regrading process. Since I have contacted him several times, it is highly possible that he has already developed a bias. The course (CISC 204) is a very basic course in the School of Computing. I believe it is very easy to find other professors to regrade this test.

There are many other issues with this course and this instructor which I will not address here since they are not likely to change my grade in this course. But I hope the consistency in any marking process and the ability of self-correcting can be emphasized at Queen's University.
