Petition Letter
Petition Letter: I am writing this letter to request consideration for Academic Regulation 10.3.2. On February 26th of 2016, my father suddenly passed away due to unknown causes. At this time I was in my first year at Queen's and unaware of the resources available to aid in such extenuating circumstances. Had I know an appeal of this nature were an option, I would have taken these measures at the time. If records are kept of previous academic appeals, you will see that I had submitted one during the aforementioned time to drop a sixth course, as the stress of a full course-load and the circumstances of my father's passing were too much to handle at one time.
Although I then had a reduced course-load after the appeal to drop my sixth course had been approved, I was still in mourning and therefore unable to perform to the best of my abilities. As a result, my grades suffered - particularly my final grade for PSYC 100, which was a C-. As a full year course, all tutorials and course work was completed on time prior to the incident, and the mid-term evaluation was completed with a passing grade.
I believe that I am eligible for consideration to convert this grade to credit standing. As my transcripts illustrate, a grade such as this is not common to my overall performance. I have substantially improved since my first year (last year resulting in Dean's Honour List) and continue to thrive in the Queen's community.
As mentioned, I submitted an appeal to drop a course due to the same circumstances in March of 2016 which included supporting documentation confirming the passing of my father. The page is no longer available for complete access, but if further documentation is required I will see about finding something more suitable.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Toni Angelina Parisi
