Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: To whom it may concern,
In April of 2018 I returned home from my first year of studies at Queen's University. I planned to work part time and take PSYC100 online. After two weeks at home my mother kicked me out of the house, leaving me with no financial or mental support. She has struggled with bipolar, anxiety and depression since she was 16. It was then that I began working 2 full time jobs and living out of my car or friends houses. With this severe financial and mental stress I was unable to complete any assignments of my PSYC course. I had little to no free time to study or complete assignments as I was working 7 days a week day and night, and had little access to wifi as I did not have a home. In early July my car was broken into and my laptop was stolen. This added so much financial and mental stress on me that I was unable to return to Queen's this past fall. Things have settled down now and I have found a place to live that I am able to afford, but I still am working 2 jobs and am dealing with anxiety and depression daily due to what occurred this summer. I have been attending counselling since September and that is helping my gain back my confidence and helping me deal with the trauma of being kicked out. If these were not my circumstances I know that I would have been able to succeed in my PSYC100 course, just like I did with all my other courses at Queen's.
I hope to attend UBC for Kin in the Fall of 2019 as I will not be able to return to Queen's due to financial stresses. Unfortunately having a failed course on my transcript inhibits my competitiveness to be accepted into this program. I worked very hard to maintain the GPA I did in the Fall of 2017/Winter 2018 at Queen's. I would hate to lose future opportunities due to a course that I know I could have succeeded in if the circumstances were different. I am hoping to have PSYC100 removed from my transcript so I am able to preserve my other 24 credits of grades and continue my studies in a strong program at a great school.
