Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: In the Summer of 2016, I was able to take part in WRIT 125 which I took to improve my writing ability for the duration of my time at Queen's. During this time a member of my family, whom I lived with, was dying. They had been ill for a while but in the months of this course, they entered the last few weeks of their life. This person required medical attention and assistance. Obviously, this both distracted me from my studies physically and emotionally. On the day that the final project was due, which was worth a large percentage of my final grade, this family member passed away. The days leading up to his death were incredibly hard and my home was constantly filled with medical professional, ambulance workers, and other family members. I would like to explain that when I signed on for the course I was not aware of how serious this persons illness was. His doctors were unaware of how long he would have, so much so that one day before his passing we were told that he would have around a week. I did my best to do the course work but I feel that I could have done better in regular circumstances. For this reason, I would like my transcript to show CR. As I am applying to Masters programs I feel that this is negatively affecting my GPA.
