Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: Hello,

I seek to drop POLS 385 (Statistics) due to a serious decline of my mental health. This struggle has caused a significant impact on my ability to focus, retain information, perform daily tasks, attend lectures, and more. After loved ones began noticing my decline in mental health, they sought to get me help when I was unable to do so. They were able to find a psychologist willing to see me within a week. On my second and most recent visit with my psychologist, she informed me that due to these circumstances I could apply for a late drop.

I wish to drop this class specifically because it is the most time-consuming and challenging for me. I fear that continuing with this class will not only result in academic failure, but will also inhibit my ability to heal and focus on my mental health. Even with my current extensive list of accommodations, I have been so far unsuccessful in achieving any meaningful learning for this class. Dropping this class would allow me to make my mental health my top priority. My hope is that when I retake this course in the fall, I will be healthy enough to make academics my top priority once again.
