Petition Letter: Monday, March 11 2019
Dear Dr. Jenn Stephenson,
I am appealing to drop the courses, PHIL 203 (Winter, 2019) and MUSC 102 (Winter, 2019) as I have missed the drop date deadline due to extenuating circumstances beyond my control.
I had missed the March 1st course drop deadline due to a medical emergency. I have a severe anaphylactic allergy to peanuts, all nuts, and sesame seeds, and had an allergy attack which resulted in me being unable to drop the course in time. The severe allergy attack had occurred on the night of the deadline, March 1st and had lead me to be incapacitated for the following 18 hours post attack. This was an unfortunate incident beyond my control that had hindered my ability to perform an academic action. I have chosen to drop the courses to ensure my future academic success as I am currently struggling. I have spoken to councillors in the academic advising department at the Faculty of Arts and Science who have advised me to drop the courses. I understand that I had decided to drop the courses far too close to the deadline and have seen that was poor planning on my behalf.
Going forward, I am making a few adjustment to my overall plans to further ensure academic success in university. I will be retaking one of the courses in the summer or following year. I will also be taking a lighter course load so I am able to stay on top of my work. 6 courses is far too many and I know that now. I am also seeking professional help regarding external factors that have brought my grades down overall, and I am going to attend workshops by Student Academic Success Services to improve my current work as well as work habits.
Sincerely,
Sachin Khanna
