Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To whom it may concern,

My name is Bianca Chaaya and I am a third-year life sciences student. I had an emergency surgery on February 25th, in week 7. As this was an unexpected surgery, I was unaware of how much pain I would be in during my recovery and how long it would take. It was a very hectic time, with doctors¿¿ visits and the drop period passed. I thought I could try and complete the year as planned. I had to see nurses every day for two weeks after the surgery. Finally, I felt well enough to return to Kingston, however I still see nurses every other day. The recovery length was hard to predict, and I was focused on returning to school however it has been much harder than I expected. I have been unable to sit since the surgery due to the location of my wound being near my lower back, so I have been unable to go to class. Working on my own computer has also been difficult as sitting up right has just been very painful. I have been trying my best to catch up on all the material I have missed however I want to fulfill my obligations to the best of my ability. I submitted an academic accommodations form and spoke with my professors regarding my situation and the completion of the work I missed. However, with 5 courses of work to do I have now realized that I cannot be completely successful in my studies due to my current condition. Also, due to the sheer amount of assessments and course work I must do there is not enough time to complete my tasks. This predicament was very sudden and has caused a lot of stress that would be greatly alleviated if I was able to drop a course. I hope to drop BIO 350 as it is a content heavy course that requires great focus and study time. I want to be able to do my best in this course and I do not believe I can do that with the other obligations I have. The acceptance of this appeal would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Bianca Chaaya
