Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: To whom it may concern,
My name is Mariah Evans I currently am in my 2nd year of study at Queens university and am looking to appeal 3 course from the fall term of 2018. The reasons for this appeal is because of an event that caused severe distress affecting my mental and physical health.

Last term I had a friend I was very close to before realizing I was in a mentally abusive relationship with this person and attempted to end the relationship. This individual however became very upset stating because of me I caused her to self-harm herself where she was infected and suicidal. I called the police due to the suicide threat and rushed to her. She answered the door without a single cut and not planning on suicide but instead was just trying to get me back. The police said she was no threat to herself and left after reporting about the incident. I had a huge mental break down due to the incident and couldn't leave my bed for a week another then to eat. My psychiatrist helped me through the issue as best as he could but the individual continued to harass me and my friends all through the exam season and after that until police were called and was told to end all contact with myself. This individual does go to Queen's and such I was very nervous to go to campus with fear of seeing her.

These incidents caused a lot of mental health effects which effected my exams. I was unable to concentrate without having flashbacks of the incident. I slept very little during the term causing health effects on my body such as constant colds effecting me from attending class and studying. When I was contacted by the individual by fake accounts or her friends I had panic attacks which would sometimes lead to me fainting. After these episodes I would be very tired and have very little energy to do work, attend class or study for exams. I have tired to go to counseling and therapy for the trauma but have had difficulty as I have had to relive the incident causing again a lot of stress affecting my work. I have had to switch courses this term due to the fact she has been in them and I try to avoid her at all costs as being in the same room caused panic attacks. After speaking with an academic adviser this term I was told I would be a candidate for appealing my grades due to the incidents that caused my grades to be affected.
