Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Good afternoon,
I am applying to appeal my courses that I failed during my 2018 school year. The first part being my 2018 winter semester and the second part being my 2018 fall semester. Around March 2018 I was admitted to the wellness centre for reasons involving my suicide attempt. I was extremely unwell mentally and physically and failed to notice it in time. As a result I had missed most of my class deadlines and even an exam. I started working to get better with the student wellness centre and Laurie was my therapist at the time. A lot of things were too late for me to catch up on and we tried working with my professors to make things better and so my grades wouldn't be affected too badly. I got incomplete grades (IN) from a few of my classes but even those I couldn't do because I had to take the summer away and go home to try and get better.

I was all ready for my school year and doing better in my classes but then I started having issues with my study permit. I had applied to get my study permit renewed in May and they requested a new passport so I was lucky I was going home and went to get a new passport then reapplied. I got refused my study permit in October due to a mix up of documentation and at this point my Temporary residence visa had expired. I was sent a letter that I was not legally allowed to continue studies at that point in time and had to apply for a status renewal. During my waiting period to see if I would get re approved for my status, I couldn't legally be in school and I didn't get approved till January this year. I applied for academic consideration but my profs advised it was too late to try and catch up but my GNDS gave me an IN grade which I recently completed this semester. My dad had paid the full school fees for that semester as well because we thought the process would be shorter.

All in all, my academic year has been extremely stressful and it Isi depressing to see how much I have failed due to conditions beyond my control. I hope the school will see this is not a reflection of my academic abilities and give me a chance to make things right. I have had multiple meetings with my course advisors and have mapped out what I need to do in order to get back on track. I hope to grade in the winter of 2020 and work hard to make my grades appealing.

Thank you,
Jasmine Modupe
