Petition Letter

Petition Letter: I am Yizhou Zhao who is a 3rd year Statistics Major student. I am appealing to drop ECON 351 (Winter, 2019).
I will first address why I enrolled in this class. I took STAT 361 in Fall term 2019 and I failed this course unfortunately for personal reasons so that I must retake it in Fall term 2020 to complete my degree. But STAT 361 is the prerequisite of many 400level Statistics courses (i.e. STAT 457, STAT 464) that might also be provided in the Fall term 2020 which will result a time confliction. The schedule of course offerings was not published back then. That is why I decided to take ECON 351 this term as an equivalence class of STAT 361, having me eligible for higher level STAT courses in Fall term 2020.
However, On the March 14th, the Department of Mathematics and Statistics announced the course offerings in 2020. It was not until then I found that all the courses requiring STAT 361 will be offered in Winter term 2020, which means I can take STAT 361 in fall and other courses in winter and ECON 351 will not be needed anymore. Nonetheless, I did not intend to drop this course immediately, mainly because I have been doing great so far and I did not want all my effort to be in vain. I achieved 95 on the midterm.
The reason why I am appealing to drop it today is that I am currently enrolled in 6 classes, giving me too much pressure. Especially I am feeling more and more stressful and anxious lately as final exams are approaching. Econ 351 is also becoming a lot harder than before. Each assignment is at least 10 pages long and the grading scheme is stricter than the official scheme of Queens (i.e. A+ is above 93, A is from 87 to 93, etc.). I am almost certain that the grade of Econ 351 will lower my GPA eventually and continue taking this course will even affect grades of the other 5 subjects. I will not even receive any credit from it. On the contrary, dropping Econ 351 has zero effect on anything. I will be only taking 5 finals in April and continue studying STAT 361 in September.
At last, I would really appreciate it if you could approve of my appeal. It seriously will be a huge relief and help me improve my academic performance. Thank you very much for your time and consideration.
Best regards,
Yizhou Zhao
