Petition Letter: To Whom it may concern,
I've been struggling to varying degrees academically for the past couple years. In second year I was put on ADHD medication, which didn't work and just made me very euphoric and agitated. I started getting progressively more severe mood swings that would last from weeks to months. Eventually last semester after I ended up in the emergency room at KGH several times they diagnosed me with bipolar disorder and put me on medication. I don't have a very good repore with my psychiatrist and don't get to see her very often. So far the medication hasn't been at all effective at controlling my Bipolar disorder and I still have really bad phases, both of depression and mania. The manic episodes are much more severe from a school perspective, because I get very confused and don't think properly which makes it difficult for me to perform well in a test environment. Most of my teachers have been very accomodating, but in 321 I haven't been able to keep up with the work or make accomodations with the professor. Even when I am able to properly study and prepare if I go into a test like I did for 321 and am in a manic phase I'm not able to write the test properly.
I feel that between of my poor performance on the work I've already done and my lack of ability to attend or to focus properly in class I'll struggle to pass the course. I believe my other courses may be impacted, but I should be able to do well enough, based on the work I've already done and the generous accomodations of the professors, who have allowed me to do my work and right tests in periods when I am healthier.
Hopefully next year I'll find a new doctor or medication to better stabilize my condition and be able to hold a full course load.
Thank you and if you need to meet in person or for me to get documentation from a doctor let me know.
I'm sorry if I rambled.
Thanks,
Sam
