I would really like to put my all toward completing these courses. If successful, I plan on submitting all outstanding work by the end of the month. I plan on coordinating with willing professors to take their Summer seatings for some of the exams missed like MATH121, ECON212, and STAT263. For my MATH and ECON exams, I would coordinate with the offices to set a day to write 2-3 exams in a block across 2-3 days. If this cannot be achieved, I will coordinate individually to write the exams at a designated date or during the regular exam season if granted.

However, I do understand that all may be implausible to achieve INs in and in that case I will pursue Late Drops for the courses and I will retake the necessary ones. Courses like STAT263, MATH121, MATH 384, MATH 112, and ECON351 are all required of my general degree. They are also courses I do not necessary struggle with in regards to the content but more so the timeline of deliverables and evaluations. I am passionate about the art of math and value my potential degree, I am determined to start what I have finished.

In regards to seeking my professors¿¿ support, I am awaiting responses and have previously confirmed with some of my 2018 Summer and 2018 Winter professors earlier in the school year about the process. With respect to outstanding items, I can recall I do not exceed 3 remaining items for the indicated courses above as most are final exams, give or take a midterm or assignment. I sent out a mailchimp this morning to professors as a follow up to where we last were in our correspondence.




Winter 2017
What was specifically happening during this time frame What caused you to fail MATH 121B and STAT 263 How were you able to be successful in COMM 251 (B+) and ECON 222 (C-).

During this timeframe I was trying out new antidepressants and reacting adversely to the effects. I was extremely legarthic, missed every alarm due to deep sleep linked to medication, and gained a lot of weight. I took 6 courses to get ahead and unfortunately did not expect the outcome. The structure of COMM251 was collaborative and the deliverables were spread out, I had lots of encouragement and support from my classmates which naturally led to work handed in, there also was not a final exam. For ECON222, I had retaken the course and a lot of the work was similar. I did not perform as I intended to but my organization and focus skills were heavily lacking. I had spoke with Professor Molson and Professor Day that term and was granted reweighted exams that I ended up missing by sleeping in. At the time, I was new to understanding mental health and dealing with my own. I did not evaluate the true risk of staying on the medication in comparison to the effects on my life and academics as I was scared about what may happen to me if I quit them. Following this was a journey trying out different medications which unfortunately impacted me negatively in many instances.

Fall 2017
What was happening in this term that is significantly different from the Winter 2017 term What caused you to fail MATH 221 and MATH 384 How were you able to be successful in ECON 3225 and ENIN 200

At this time, I was taking 6 courses to make up for my failed units from last term, I was confident I was going to power through as most of them were quantitative and overlapped. I was extremely depressed and without medications or any personal support. MATH221 does not offer online materials and it was extremely difficult to attend class and submit in-class assignments and quizzes. Additionally, when I wrote the exam, I was placed in a glass room in an office in the Math building that caused me to have a panic attack. I did not speak up about it because I felt bad for already having this exam scheduled before with my professor who was irritated, I was embarrassed as well. I left the exam nearly empty and left shortly after I started. For MATH384, I could not keep up with weekly assignments that added up. These assignments constituted around 30-40 and I missed the final exam. I had reached out to the professor and she was skeptical of my performance granted I had a low grade and a heavy exam, I was planning to negotiate a reweighting of the exam but was extremely discouraged and should have sought out proper help. ECON322 was regarding financial markets and came naturally to me as I have taken online audited courses in the past. ENIN 200 had a loose structure with tougher deliverables throughout the mid and end of term. I was able to strap down and focus on delivering this work as it did not require the practice and theory of my other courses.


Winter 2018
At this time, I was on a new antidepressant but its effects began to wane shortly into the term. Aside from my friend forcing me to get the ECON351 assignments completed, I was not a functional student that term. I became at risk and isolated myself, failing to attend most lectures. Courses like ECON351 and MATH339 did not have uploaded slides. I missed midterm evaluations and had all my exams deferred. I was unfit to interview or meet recruiters for internships and that also severely impacted my anxiety and hopelessness. Near the end of the term when effects became unbearable, I spoke to my doctor and she gave me a higher dose which threw my off completely and I felt crazy. I was crying in public and couldnt leave the house, I prepared and got my exams deferred.



Summer 2018

The interferences from the Summer were mostly personal circumstances. Courses like ENIN, that I usually excelled in were impacted as well as courses like MATH121 and ECON212, which I had already taken twice before. That was why I was confident in taking a large course load that summer.


I am now trying to appeal these courses because I realize I am fully capable of passing the courses if I were granted an opportunity to write the final exams/final deliverables. Mental health issues, poor focus in relation to ADD, and extreme financial instability were the driving factors behind my underperformance and negligence to duties. In February when I initially applied, it took a lot of courage and emotion. Although the guidance I received from the appeal office was incredibly helpful, having my appeal sent back for revision was ultimately for the better but I became very depressed and ill for the time being. I turned to faith and prayed for a sign, as of a week ago I regained my confidence, my doctor prescribed me medication that was a considerable positive impact on my motivation and anxiety, and a dream internship opportunity presented itself. This appeal is the priority and I feel confident submitting it as I am planning to step forward in my progress to complete courses. I feel it is sometimes difficult relaying everything coherently through a letter and would not mind meeting with an appeal officer for better understanding.
