Petition Letter

Petition Letter: My name is Cameron Muirhead, I am a student currently taking the course PPEC 200 who would like to apply for a late drop due factors that have had an effect on my performance. I have suffered from anxiety and depression for several years and these personal struggles have unfortunately been particularly severe this semester, limiting my performance and my focus on my studies. I have academic accommodations from QSAS due in part to these personal struggles and also due to my ADHD, which I have been living with since I was a child. In this course in particular, these issues have prevented me from performing my best. The reason I am applying for a late drop is that I was confident that I would be able to improve my standing until well after the drop deadline. This course more than others has been difficult to me this semester; the long and numerous readings, as well as the writing assignments have proven to be a challenge to complete when my anxiety and depression are so pronounced. I have taken steps over the years to manage my depression, anxiety, and ADHD. I have visited a therapist in my hometown and a counsellor here at Queen's and I am actively taking medication for all of the issues outlined. Because I feel as though I have underperformed in this course due to my personal struggles, and I have attempted to address them to no avail thus far, I believe I am justified in pursuing a late drop instead of completing the course and receiving a low grade.
