Petition Letter
Petition Letter: To whom it may concern,
During the Fall semester of my third year at queens I experienced extenuating circumstances which impacted my grades and required me to leave campus for weeks at a time. These circumstances include psychological challenges including diagnosed depression, as well as the illness of my mother.
During early 2017 my mother was diagnosed with a life threatening illness and underwent chemotherapy, this largely influenced my academic performance during that time. When compared with my earlier academic years I believe one can see the effect of these circumstances. I reached out to counselling services on Queens Campus, as well as both Psychiatrists and Psychologists in Ottawa, Brockville, and Kingston during this time. As my mother lives in Ottawa, I was traveling between home and Kingston frequently. Much of my time was taken up as a result; my performance and attendance during the fall semester of 2017 suffered directly due to these circumstances. After I was admitted to a psychiatric ward and contacted by crisis prevention services, it was clear to me that it was in both the best interest of my and my mother¿¿s health to return to home in Ottawa.
Since 2017, I have been prescribed a number of medications for my psychological distress and proactively work with a counselor to minimize the effects these circumstances have on my mental health. Additionally, during my leave of absence I have altered my course plan and gained work in a relevant field. I currently hope to return to Queens University in the stream of Biology in the BIOL-G-BSC degree plan. I am optimistic that if my Fall 2017 grades are removed from my transcript I will able to continue my goal of attending Ontario Veterinary College after my studies at Queens.
I am more than willing to provide the appropriate documentation.
Thank you for your time and consideration,
Scott Rombough
