Petition Letter: I am submitting an academic appeal for the following courses I did was unable to complete. DEVS 100 (Summer 2018), ENGL 100 (Summer 2018), LIBS 100 (Fall 2018), FRST 290 (Fall 2018), GNDS 120 (Winter 2019) and WRIT 120 (Winter 2019).
As a student with an ongoing disability, I went through an overwhelming period of my life from July 2018 to around December 2018. During those 6 months I experienced a significant decline in my mental health, great financial struggles, and eventually homelessness. Since I take online courses, accessing them became a difficulty and focusing on my school work in the midst of all the stress became almost impossible. Because of this, I failed some courses due to incomplete assignments and missed due dates. Seeing how these marks affected my grades only added to the anxiety I felt when it came to my academics.
After the semester of Summer 2018, most of my courses were Fall/Winter so when I built up the courage to get help, I was able to catch up in most of my courses. I made a plan of action with my academic advisor, I spoke in-depth with my family doctor about coping with my health issues, and I registered with Accessibility Services where I learned about all the resources available for me. Unfortunately, it was past the due date to drop courses by this time so it was suggested to me that I appeal these courses instead. It took me so long to submit this appeal because of the fee which I couldn't afford to pay at the time because I was recovering financially as well. I'm proud of myself for refusing to give up on my academics, and have finally completed a semester of courses Now that I have the tools I feel I need to succeed, I'm looking forward to passing all of my future courses and completing my degree. Thank you for your consideration
