Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: Dear Dr. Jenn Stephenson,

Hello, my name is Aimee Chyc and I am an undergraduate student at Queens University. I recently completed my first year of studies at the Bader International Study Centre at the Herstmonceux Castle in England. The purpose of this letter is to request an appeal for credit standing in a course. The course I am submitting for consideration is PSY100, a full-year course recently completed in the BISC First Year Program.
I am requesting a CR for this course due to other extenuating circumstances beyond my control. In early November 2018, I experienced a serious traumatic event for which I was granted academic considerations for 3 months. This event severely damaged my mental, emotional and physical well-being. Due to my situation, my ability to achieve a higher grade in this course was reduced. I found I was struggling with this specific course prior to the incident and, although I received support from my Professor, the incident amplified my struggles. I had considered swapping the course at the beginning of the year however, the BISC program was limited in course selection. By November, it was too late to change my timetable as the PSY100 course is a full-year course.
I have completed the course with much lower grades than expected and wish to have the PSY100 grade excluded from my GPA. My circumstances are currently being managed in such a way that I am able to make a successful return to my studies this fall.
To ensure that my academics remain well intact, I will be maintaining regular meetings with a personal counselor. These regular meetings will support my future academic goals by securing my emotional support and eliminating high anxiety levels that would occur during class lectures. I will also be seeking extra academic help support to improve my grades.
The acceptance of my CR appeal request would be deeply appreciated and would help me very much in my future academic endeavors.
