Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Hello,

I will keep this letter concise and to the point.
I'm appealing the required withdrawal of 1 year from Queen's University.
Extenuating circumstances beyond my control have lead me to appeal my 1 year mandatory leave.
My father was diagnosed with stage 4 brain cancer in 2016. Ever since then, I haven't felt the same mentally. I believe the time and energy spent thinking about him has caused an academic performance hit. So severe that it's come to trying to defend myself from expulsion on this very forum. December 2018, I was given word that my father was at a point in his illness where he could pass at any time. This puts an immense amount of stress on someone, perhaps also someone whose reluctant to use pharmaceutical medication to ease the situation. This lead me to just simply push through it. I have friends and family open to talk, but to be honest I have never been one to talk about my feelings much. After 6 weeks through the winter term I had lost my study habits, and from there on out, my ECON 111 and 112 were basically doomed. I began to stop submitting assignments, and soon enough I was at a point where I needed a 60 on an exam just to pass on of my courses. For SPAN 205, I had a hard time going to class, but I still completed much of the course work, and respected the professor for dealing with my absence much of the time. Why didn't I seek help Good question, but being in that state is hard for someone to reason and think clearly, at least it was for me. It could have been as simple as telling someone, but again, my priorities were elsewhere. I'm appealing the 1-year suspension because I know with the right and specific measures, I will succeed.

Thanks,
Kalid
