Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean,

My name is Alexander Ghai. I am a second-year student majoring in Mathematics. I am appealing for a credit standing in CISC 121, offered in the fall semester of 2018 by Dr. Richard Linley.

I was retaking the class to improve the C+ grade I had received in the Summer of 2018, unfortunately unforeseen circumstances set in and I ended up getting a lower grade, D. I understand that it does not count towards my GPA, but I would be grateful if the grade could be replaced with a credit standing.

Last year, I lost a friend at KGH. He got sick in November and by December his health had deteriorated to the point of being placed on life support machine. Eventually his body was removed off the life support. This was a very challenging time for me. I was writing assignments, preparing for exams and talking to the deceased parents. On the other hand, I was hosting the deceased friends who were coming from other towns to pay their respect.

I missed some very important classes in the process. I fell behind in lectures and as a result one of my classes suffered the most, CISC 121. I did not do well in the midterm and was hoping to score well in the final so that I can raise the total grade since those two portions account for about 70 of the overall final grade. So, I requested for my exams to be pushed to January, which was granted. I studied over the December Christmas break. However, I was mentally unprepared and that showed when I took my exams. I did not do well in my final exams. Fortunately, I had done well in all my assignments for Econ 112 and CISC 110 and that helped raised my grades in those classes.

I would be very grateful if you could help with my appeal thank you.

Best Regards,

Alex
