Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To whom it may concern.

I am writing to request AG standing in Religion 131, and to drop PSYC 236 passed the drop course deadline.

Starting in late December 2018, I've had to go to my nearest emergency room on multiple occasions. By February, after further testing I was diagnosed with Chrons, Colitis and Endometriosis. The symptoms of all of these conditions made it very hard to function day to day. During this period of time my main priority was going into work, as I am a single parent and sole provider for my daughter. I wanted to complete the Winter semester, but I needed to focus on my health and under the advice of my doctors, I needed to decrease my stress levels and focus on adjusting to my new health conditions.

I was performing quite well in Religion 131. All of my grades were A's. Unfortunately, I was unable to complete the final exam but I am hopeful that the workload that I did complete and the grades I did get will assist in making a decision to grant an Aegrotat estimated grade for this course.

I did not assume that I would end up having these diagnoses, which is why I did not drop the PSYC 236 course by the deadline. I really wanted to participate and complete this course during the Winter 2019 term. I was hopeful that my health was going to get better and I would be able to catch up. I plan to take this course in the Fall 2019 term. I would like to have this course removed from my transcript so that my GPA is not effected.

I have worked very hard to complete my degree. Throughout the years it has not been easy, as I am sure many mature students find balancing other responsibilities and priorities with their studies difficult. I look forward to still continuing my studies and I am hopeful to graduate by 2020. I am on medication now, have surgery during the summer, and I am working with a dietitian closely. I am going to only take a maximum of two courses per term to ensure I can manage. I understand that my conditions are auto immune and life long so I will plan my studies accordingly and will not take on too much so that I can manage in the event it gets worse again.

I appreciate your consideration and understanding in this matter.

Thanks,
Heather Wakutz
