Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: Dear Sir/Madam,

My name is Vincent Wang and I am a student of Art&Sci going into fourth year. I am under an extenuating circumstance, that directly affected my academic performance, caused by an unusual academic event, which there is nothing I can do about and is beyond my control.

When I was in my first year, 2016 Fall, I took a course, GPHY103-001/3.0 Water Resources. I did not perform well and failed to achieve a passing grade. The grade has been dragging down my GPA quite much. Entering into fourth year, I have been planing on taking the course again, in order to replace the old grade and recover some of my GPA. However, the course(GPHY103) cannot be found anywhere, neither on SOLUS nor course of instruction, so I called the student services and asked several academic advisers, but the answer I received is that the course will not be offered again and there is nothing they can do to help me.

In my opinion, I think majority students deserve chances of retaking a course that they did poorly on, also I am aware of that I cannot change the fact that GPHY103 will not be offered again, but I genuinely hope there is something can be done to it because it can help my GPA really much. I have used the GPA calculator on Queens website, it shows that if I can retake the course (and another course I am retaking it this summer) and get B on them, my GPA will go up from 2.66 to 2.91, and that means a really big difference to me since I plan on taking a master degree in the future.

I wish the faculty could allow me to take another (or similar) course to replace my old grade on GPHY103, or make the credit and GPA of GPHY103 do not count into my cumulative GPA, or turn GPHY103, which I have taken, into a Personal Interest Credit, or at least something which make GPHY103 grade do not count in to my cumulative GPA since there is no chance I can retake it again.
