Request:
I am appealing for the 2019 winter term to drop CISC 223, Math 210, and Stat 269 after the final drop date.
Explanation:
I had been having minor mental health problems related to anxiety in prior terms and seeing a family doctor about it. However in the 2019 winter term it worsened and I did not return to Kingston (except for a day or two) or to any classes after reading week. I continued to see a doctor in Ottawa and I applied at the time for short term academic consideration, because I thought with a change of medication that I would recover quickly. I was allowed to hand in assignments electronically and received some reduction in assignments for some classes. However I did not recover enough to concentrate, do the readings or assignments or go to class, and therefore I was not able to keep up or do any work. I did not write any final exams and rarely left the house during this time. (Since there were no assignments or final exam for CISC 365, I passed this course with a C- anyway, but I am sure that the instructor changed the course weighting for me as academic consideration since I did not take all 5 tests for the course.) I continued to see my doctor and she made further changes to the medication I was taking.
Prior to reading week and then during reading week, I went onto Solus and dropped all of my courses. With the help of my mother, the registrars office added them back. Both my parents and I thought that by continuing to get medical help that I would recover in time to continue my courses.
In addition, earlier in the term before my mental health problems got worse, I interviewed for an internship. Since there is a requirement to be a full-time student, I really wanted to keep at least three courses. I made sure to start getting out of the house and doing more active things prior to the internship starting however after attending work for a week, I was unable to continue. I have been on unpaid sick leave, for which I send in doctor notes to the employer. There was nothing wrong with the assignment or the people at the workplace. I recently resigned from the internship since it is July now and I do not know when I will be well enough to return. I am continuing to see my doctor and work on getting better.
Future plan:
I will not be returning to Queens in September because I will not be confident enough about returning to class for the year to sign a lease for an apartment. I also think that the stress of living away from home is to much right now and that I am more likely to be able to successfully return to university if I live at home in Ottawa. Therefore I recently applied late for a transfer to Carleton University. I will continue to see my doctor and work at being more active.
