Petition Letter: To: Associate Dean (Studies)

Good afternoon,

My name is Dmitry Molodtsov (student ID 20138530).

I am appealing for approval for late drop of the following three courses that I took in 2018 fall semester: BMED 173, PHAR 100, and PHGY 170.

In the end of August/beginning of September my wife, three year old daughter and I had to move from Toronto to Newmarket. We had great difficulties with moving ¿¿ we did not get a mortgage approved on time, because of that we had to move out of our rental place without anywhere to go and had pay penalties; finding local daycare and getting subsidy for my daughter ¿¿ she was going only 2-3 days a week until mid-October (during this time my wife and I had to juggle between going to work and staying with our daughter) and we got subsidy only in January 2019; getting used to additional 2-3 hours of very expensive commute on Go Train every day and drastically increased overall expenses without any significant increases in income. Without financial support from my mother in Russia we would not have been able to make both ends meet.

Moreover we had some structural changes at work starting from October 2018 that ended only in May 2019. These changes caused a great amount of additional stress and also lack of time that I planned to dedicate to studying (breaks and lunches).

In addition to this, my grandfather was diagnosed with cancer (terminal stage) in summer of 2018 - it was and still is a great shock for all of us, especially for my mom since she will have no other family left in Russia after he is gone. I am now writing this email from my home in Russia, where we came for ¿¿vacation¿ to say goodbye to him.

Because of all of this, after the first few weeks, I hardly ever logged into SOLUS and then completely forgot to contact university and drop the courses. After it was already too late to drop the courses I was too overwhelmed and stressed to write an email and ask for somebody¿¿s help in university.

Not being able to cope with all the stress I started visiting psychotherapist in March 2019 (attached is the receipt for the initial assessment session). I have another session on Thursday of July 25 and will ask her for a letter.

Considering all of the circumstances mentioned above, because of which I could not study last year, I deem it to be hardly possible for me to return to school in the coming fall semester and at least in the next 2-3 years.
