Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Dear Dr. Stephenson,

Thank you for taking the time to read this appeal. My name is Kruthika Mahadevan and I am a 4th year Biology Major student at Queen¿¿s University. I am writing this appeal to waive the 21 day deadline to submit an appeal, for the requirement to withdraw for one school year appeal.

I would first like to apologize for not having sent this appeal in by the date given on the letter sent. As you are already aware, it has been a really stressful and tough time for me this summer, with the entire Winter 2019 term first and second level appeal process, along with my treatment and my summer course load concurrently going on. I don¿¿t mean to make excuses for my missing the deadline, but I would like to properly explain my situation. Managing my treatment, school work, appeal work, along with medications and life style habits, has made it difficult to manage too much at once. Making it challenging to submit this appeal on time, as late May and early June was around the time all my scans, tests, appointments were given and taking place, making it very hard to cope with such deadlines that required a lot of attention, while also meeting deadlines of school work. During the first month of summer, I had given my complete priority to my winter semester appeal and had completely focused on ensuring that, that appeal was properly sent in with all necessary documents, and was written accurately with the advice I received from academic advisors. I did not want to submit an incomplete appeal without a proper complete academic plan along with other steps you had previously recommended in the letter, and before meeting with an academic advisor on how to approach my studies next like the previous appeal.

This delay mainly occurred because of all of these things simultaneously going on, it didn¿¿t give me a chance to appeal the decision by the June 11th deadline. I have been really stressed out and having a lot of anxiety this past summer with my current circumstance and status with school along with waiting to hear back on what the condition was that was causing such ruptures to happen, which has given me a lot of mental stress. I was asked to do scans, and other tests, along with receiving treatment and medications from a naturopathic doctor to improve lifestyle habits in order to avoid to much stress and hormonal fluctuations that can trigger such ovarian cysts to ruptures, and to also take proper medications and precautions to avoid too much migraines and nausea from occurring often. These tests, scans, naturopathic doctor appointments, and specialist appointments took place towards the mid end of May and beginning weeks of June, after which I was just given medications and habits to follow until my scans, salivary and other test results were in. I have attached the documents for some of the tests that took place during that period. This appeal deadline was not possible for me to meet with all these tests, scans and appointments going on these past two months in my life, especially during the end of May beginning of June period, when I received the decision letter along with the appeal deadline. I sincerely apologize for not being able to submit this appeal on time, and thank you for considering this appeal.

Thank you

Sincerely,
Kruthika Mahadevan
