Petition Letter: Dear Reviewer,
I am writing the letter to request a late drop date for the course Math 121 this summer over writing of its final exam.
After having received an interview for a fall intern position for a firm only July 26th I was required to interview with said firm the following week on July 31st 11:30 am. Unfortunately, the interview time conflicted with my final exam time for Math 121 on Wednesday July 31st from 9am-12pm.
After speaking by phone with the HR person about possibly rescheduling for the interview, she informed me that the reason why they would like to interview me as soon as possible is because they need to submit fall University of Waterloo Co-op rankings for all potential candidates by a certain date. And because the hiring manager is out of office during certain dates it necessitates that I interview before their rankings deadline.
Upon hearing this I immediately emailed the Math 121 team about possibly resolving the matter with an accommodation. Unfortunately, it was not until the day before my exam on the July 30th that I received a response that a member of the Math 121 instructor team had seen and read over my request.
After the primary instructor, cced Prof. Ableson on the matter he said that we was unable to accommodate a deferral for my final exam time and suggested that I request a late drop date for the course instead. As result, for events beyond my personal control in order to accommodate both the exam time and interview time slot I had been given was pressured to finish in only half the allotted 3 hour examination time to accommodate both my interviewer and the requirements of the course.
As a direct result of this, I was not able to write my final exam to the best of my ability and am seeking the ability to drop Math 121 without an academic penalty.
Kind Regards,
Eric
