Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean Dr. Jenn Stephenson,
I am appealing for an aegrotat standing for two courses, PSYC 251 and PSYC 205 (Winter 2019). I had deferred these two exams till September 6th but was too unwell to complete them. I am now appealing for an aegrotat standing as I believe it is the best solution for me physically and emotionally.
In the Fall 2018 term, my grandfather passed away unexpectedly which caused me to go into a depression. At first, I was in shock and was able to complete my exams for the term. Starting the Winter 2019 term the loss of my grandfather weighed on me more and I became depressed and overwhelmed. I then was diagnosed with anemia which further hindered my studies. I had been feeling unwell for roughly a month when I decided to go see a doctor to make sure it was nothing serious. It was then that I was diagnosed with anemia and advised to take medication straight away. I have only now started to become stable in terms of my anemia as my medication builds up in my body¿¿s bloodstream.
I had deferred these two exams until September because I was too unwell to go to the examination hall. The reason I was able to complete the other two courses I had is that I felt better on those days. I¿¿m not sure why but my iron levels were higher, and my dizziness and nausea were not as bad. During my Psyc 251 and 205 examination periods, I did not feel well enough to leave my house and complete a 3-hour exam.
I am appealing for an aegrotat standing because I feel that starting this new semester is enough academic pressure without having to complete two exams. I was going to complete my exams on September 6th but I did not feel well enough to go and complete them. I feel I know the material well and that prolonging the exams would hinder my concentration and success in my current courses. As well, I do not wish to schedule another date for my exams only to find that I am unwell once again.
If my appeal is granted it will allow me to focus more on my current studies and have a greater success rate. I will continue to take my medication which will help my anemia and allow me to feel better. I have begun dealing with the death of my grandfather through my religion and I believe that as I continue, I will feel much better.
If you have any further questions please reach out. I only wish to reach my greater potential and success and I believe that having an aegrotat standing would help.

Amendment to Appeal 6133
Relevant Petition: 6133
New Information: I am attaching my grandfather obituary to this amendment. I apologize for the way it is formatted. I can't seem to find a way to save the obituary in a format that is accepted by this form. When you open the file you will be able to see the paragraph with his date of death and surviving family.
I'd like to further explain that simply thinking of having to take these two exams makes me feel overwhelmed and anxiety fill my chest. I am not proud of my grades last semester and I don't want to relive that. If you look at my previous years you will see that I have never not done an exam and I have almost always done very well on them. This is not a situation where I simply want to skip an exam. The thought of having to look back on last year, remember my struggles, my loss, and my hurt fills me with dread, tears, and anxiety. I desperately want to put last year behind me and I worry that dealing with these two exams will cost me my focus on doing well in this new year. I enjoy school and I enjoy my program, it is not my intention to fail or do poorly, this appeal is to help me get back to my original academic standing and succeed.
