Petition Letter

Petition Letter: I¿¿m submitting this appeal for the courses because of the mental health challenges within my family. My mother who struggles with an opioid addiction attempted suicide in early September of 2016. It was overwhelming at the time to take on my Mom¿¿s recovery process and going to the hospital. At the same time I had started a new job and was moving up north with my Dad. I should have dropped the courses at the time but my brain was in a fog and wasn¿¿t thinking clearly.

To further complicate things, while living with my Dad and sister they became more and more abusive over time. Physically, emotionally, property destruction, a very toxic environment. Not only for myself but my dog as well. It got to a point where I had to leave and lived with a friend in London, ON. I had a good job in Brampton and didn¿¿t want to lose it so I commuted for a month while I was there. I found an apartment in Brampton and with my full time and part time jobs I¿¿m able to generate enough income to support myself and my dog. Additionally I¿¿ve cut all communication with my family for my own mental health.

I¿¿ve settled into my apartment and the routine of my jobs. I¿¿ve also completed a 300 hr Modo Yoga training with the help of the ¿¿Be Peace Scholarship¿, which covered half the tuition costs. The training was more therapeutic than I had anticipated. The Modo Yoga community is truly supportive and provides a safe space for all. The training has provided me with a supportive community and a clear head. I¿¿ve planned out all the courses I need to take and development a savings plan to have enough money to take the classes. I¿¿m eager to finish my degree. I¿¿m starting off my taking one class a semester so that it¿¿s not overwhelming with my jobs. Potentially two a semester if I¿¿m very organized.

I feel like having those courses on my transcript really impacts my GPA and hinders my future opportunities. I don¿¿t want my family situation to negatively impact my potential.

Thank you
Stephany
