Petition Letter
Petition Letter: In January, I suffered an injury to my wrist/forearm that rendered me unable to play the piano. I was to complete a playing examination for both MUSC400 and MUSC421 in April, but after seeing physiotherapy I provided a note from my physiotherapist that confirmed that the injury was long-term and that I would not be able to recover in time to be adequately prepared to perform for my examinations.
As a result of this, my playing examinations were deferred to the 2019 Fall term. However, despite the 4 months that have lapsed since then, my forearms and wrist have not fully recovered. I've since returned to physiotherapy at a different clinic, where the therapist has informed that the injury has not yet recovered and I am currently in the process of doing more rehab work.
Though I expect to be playing piano again very soon, I would need more time to adequately prepare for my examinations and would need at least the majority of the Fall term to practice, if not the entire Fall-Winter term (the standard amount of time needed to prepare repertoire for the playing examinations). I believe my instructors would agree/confirm that I would need a fair amount of time to realistically prepare after such a long down-time from playing the piano.
I am seeing my physiotherapist again for a 3rd session tomorrow and can provide a note confirming that this injury is still currently preventing me from functioning properly and practicing the piano upon request.
For now, I've attached the initial note from my physiotherapist at the onset of the injury.
