Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To the Associate Dean of Studies;
I am appealing for a late drop in SOCY 227 (Winter, 2019), SOCY 304 (Winter, 2019), and FILM 210 (Winter, 2019). This is due to extenuating circumstances that have been beyond my control. I suffered a severe concussion in January which prevented me from fulfilling the requirements of these courses. Despite my attempts to continue with the courses despite missing several weeks of classes, I found myself unable to make progress in any of the courses. While I recognize that it was my responsibility at the time of the incident to make the appropriate accommodations for my academic responsibilities, the nature of my injury led me to believe I would recover with enough time to complete them all, and the injury ultimately lasted longer than anticipated. I regularly visited doctors to check-in, and had several appointments with an academic advisor to try to make the most of the situation, however the more I attempted to push myself in my courses, the more severe my concussion symptoms became.
I only began to truly feel back at full health late into the summer, and I feel that starting this school year fresh, and retaking my required courses with a clean slate would be extremely beneficial in alleviating some of the stress due to my circumstances from last year. I have every intention of retaking these courses, and barring any unforeseen circumstances, putting my full focus into achieving success into each and every one of them.

Thank you for your consideration,
Jonathan Karr
