Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Associate Dean (Studies),
My name is Benjamin Church and I am appealing to drop POLS 336 (Fall, 2014), POLS 351 (Fall, 2014), and POLS 336 (Fall, 2014).
Starting September 2014, I began to experience symptoms of a severe depressive episode which manifested primarily as decreased motivation and severe anxiety. These symptoms prevented me from attending my classes this semester or completing course work. As such, I have not been successful in these courses. My request is to appeal these grades so that they will not negatively affect my future academic record. Although I am still experiencing depression, I have been seeing a counselor at Queen's Health Services regularly since November 14, 2014.
My future plans to cope with depression include continuing counselling, seeking medical assistance, and beginning regular therapy in the new year. Academically, I intend to continue my political science degree with a lighter course load (3-4 courses a semester) as I address this illness. As such, I will be taking a fifth year to complete my degree.
Thank you for your time,
Benjamin Church
