Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean (Sociology) at Queen's University,


I am writing to request that the following courses PSYC 205 (Fall, 2018), PSYC 241 (Fall, 2018), PSYC 251 (Fall, 2018), SOCY 200 (Fall, 2018), and PSYC 100 (Winter, 2019), PSYC 204 (Winter, 2019), PSYC 221 (Winter, 2019) be dropped from my transcript.

Over the past academic year, I have struggled with untreated mental health issues that have impacted my academic efforts. These untreated issues have caused a severe loss in any motivation regarding my academics as most days it was an effort to get out of bed. The timing of these issues caused my grades and mental health to suffer. As a result of my untreated depression, I was unable to meet my own academic goals during the 2018 and 2019 terms. When my marks started to fail, my own shame increased causing my depression and anxiety to worsen.

Despite my mental health declining at the beginning of the fall term, I chose to return for the winter term. If I had recognized my struggles earlier on, I believe dropping my courses would have been a benefit towards myself. As of recently, I have been receiving treatment from a psychotherapist in order to better assess my current mental state.

This coming fall I plan on pausing my studies at Queen's University, and have decided to stay home to ensure my full recovery. Finally, once I return to my full-time studies I will enroll in fewer courses and actively seek out counselling services on campus. By applying these changes, I hope it will proactively help me as a student.

I would like to thank you for the time taken to read my letter, and I hope to be returning to Queen's University.
