Petition Letter
Petition Letter: My name is Alexandra Wasser and I am writing this letter to appeal my final grade in CISC101 from Summer 2019. I apologize for the tardiness of this letter, however, I wanted to discuss with my QSAS advisor (Monique Dube) my options regarding this appeal, and I was only able to get an appointment on Oct 28th, 2019.
The reason for applying for this appeal is due to extenuating circumstances that affected my performance this summer. Having had mental health challenges in the past, I began an intensive therapy program (DBT) in the spring consisting of 2 therapy sessions a week (1 group ¿¿ Tuesdays, 1 individual ¿¿ Thursdays) as well as a weekly appointment with my psychiatrist as he made medication adjustments.
During this time I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, bulimia, OCD, anxiety, ADHD, and PTSD. I was suffering immensely and was dependent on weekly modifications made by my psychiatrist in an attempt to attack my ongoing symptoms.
As this was at the forefront of my summer ¿activities¿¿ I was unable to perform optimally and give the time to CISC101. I attempted every assignment and test however my effective study time was compromised due to my debilitated mental state.
I am a hard working student. Though my current mental health is not optimal, I am trying my best to keep the lines of communication open with all of my professors, which has resulted in many successes this semester. Navigating the trials and tribulations associated with my condition is something I am learning as I go. I hope this experience will prompt better communication between my professors and myself in the future to prevent this situation from repeating itself.
