Attention Associate Dean of Studies,

I would like to formally appeal the drop and refund dates for my participation in psychology 100 at Queens, fall 2019/winter 2020.

I took on the course with great gusto looking to get back into school and earn a degree in psychology but extenuating circumstances are causing me a great deal of stress and preventing me from dedicating the time and energy that my studies require and deserve.

Earlier this year, I moved my elderly mother into a nursing home called Trillium Villa. Her name is Norma Johnston and they can be reached at (519) 542-5529 though I¿¿m not sure if the privacy act will prevent them from confirming her residency there.

I took on the studies at Queens knowing that I¿¿ve got a small business to run, my mother to care for and a wife and family to look after and I kept a keen eye on the dates.

I told myself that I could handle the work load and just forged on. My mothers health would be fine at times and studies would continue. The next week she¿¿d fall into a tough spot and doctors feared she might not survive and I¿¿d second guess my ability to balance everything.

Last night the nursing home called late in the evening to say that I needed to rush over as she may not make it. Today I sat at my desk exhausted trying to complete client work knowing I¿¿d have to study this evening while thinking of my mother all alone in her nursing home bed and in tears I admitted to myself that I¿¿m worn thin.

I would very much appreciate you granting me a refund for the course tuition and no academic penalty as I do plan to come back to Queens to finish what I started.

Sadly, that will take place after my mothers passing but at least I¿¿ll know I served her well and took the time to care for her.

I have discussed my situation with Dr. Norris and she supports this appeal.

I¿¿m grateful for your compassionate consideration and thank you very much for your time.

Sincerely,
Mike Murphy
