Petition Letter: My name is Carly Gagne, I am in 3rd year Health Studies. I am writing this appeal in hopes of late dropping STATS 263. Dropping this course has been recommended to me by my professor, and Meg Hall from student services. The circumstances under which I would like to drop this course are due to a concussion I received on October 6th at cheerleading practice. I fell off the top of a pyramid and hit my head on someone¿¿s shoulder on the way down. After receiving the concussion, I had to miss a few classes and miss my midterm which re weighted my final exam to about 90. I went for daily check- ups with Qsports for approximately a month. This is my second time taking statistics, I attempted it last year but had to drop it because I could not understand the material well enough to succeed, despite going to the TA help sessions that were available. This year I really felt I was going to pass and achieve this credit that is mandatory for my major. However, after missing a few courses and not being able to do proper work for a few weeks, I got very lost in the course and have since been unable to catch up. I wanted to get a tutor but for me it felt all hope was lost since at this point it was mid-November and I had a very hard time finding one. I also recently had a big falling out with both of my housemates which added an immense amount of stress on my shoulders as well. I suffer from anxiety and depression which makes it harder for me to recover from situations like this. I am almost 100 certain that no matter how hard I work for this exam I will not pass it this time around due to the stress I am dealing with and the amount of work I have to catch up on in the course, while trying to understand the material without access to the TA help sessions. Math is absolutely not my strong suit and it takes all of my concentration and effort to understand. My GPA cannot afford an F if I can avoid it. I will provide documentation where needed. I have a note from when I first received my concussion which I will add. I also emailed Qsports and will hopefully be able to speak with someone about more documentation if needed. Please take this appeal in consideration. Thank you in advanced.
