Petition Letter

Petition Letter: As I have stated previously, I was suffering from mental illness that was derived from an undiagnosed ADHD and there are is a letter from my current psychiatrist that approves of my appeal as my poor grades are deterrent to my recovery as they serve as a constant reminder of my failures and my inabilities to succeed in life. I believe that my poor grades will hinder my ability to proceed with my life goals as I believe they will impede my ability to apply for graduate schools as most graduates school look at the cumulative GPA before assessing other factors.

Although some of my courses that I have applied to have a CR instead of the normal grade is at the range of C, I wish for the grades in ECON 111/112 be CR as they have a significant impact on my ECON GPA and I believe I am a strong student in economics as I have A in majority of my core 300 level ECON courses which are built upon the foundation of ECON 111/112 and I have A's in majority of my 400 level ECON courses. I am a peer tutor for ECON and I have been recommended by Prof. Ugurhan Berkok himself to tutor his students. I wish to have a higher cumulative grade for my academic major as I wish to apply to a Financial Engineering program and the program places a very high emphasis on my ECON GPA and my cumulative GPA. I know that my academic performance in my third year and fourth of study is sufficient to meet the requirements of the program however my cumulative GPA is too low to be accepted by any institution. Although I know I should accept the repercussions for my lack of motivation in my first two years of university, I believe it is unfair for me to be tainted by a past that is haunted by my mental insecurities. I want to move forth from my pessimistic mindset and pursue a career that I have always dreamt of. I was at my nadir during my first two years of university as I have often contemplated suicide as I could never conjure up the motivation to go to class as I was unable to focus. However with my new medication, I am determined to pursue a more challenging degree in financial engineering as I know I have the aptitudes that will allow me to succeed in this academic discipline.

I believe I have worked hard since my diagnosis of ADHD and that my misdiagnosis of ADHD had a significant impact on my grades as I believe that if I was diagnosed when I was a child, I would have been able to significantly more proficient in my academics.
