Petition Letter

Petition Letter: I am asking for Credit Standing in one class in the Fall term of 2019 which is: Anatomy 315.

I am still struggling with the traumatic loss of my mother on April 5th, 2019. Due to the nature of her passing I have been diagnosed with severe anxiety and depression.
I chose to return to school as my education and degree means a great deal to me and this upcoming semester is my final one before graduating. The marks I receive are extremely important as I am hoping to continue my education in the medical field. However, I have found that my sleep, memory, and concentration have been affected a great deal. This has impacted my performance in certain assessments, especially ones that are test and memory based.
I do not believe that the mark received in Anatomy 315 is reflective of my capabilities. I have been working with a doctor at CAMH as well as a counsellor here at Queen¿¿s to continue to work through these symptoms and learn how to live with the grief I carry each day.
For my following semester I have chosen classes that don¿¿t depend so much on memory. I am also trying various treatment options with Dr. Strauss at CAMH in hopes that I can make it through my last semester successfully.

Amendment to Appeal 6433

New Information: It was suggested that I include why I did not drop ANAT 315 by the 2019 Fall drop deadline.

This is my final year here at Queen's. If I wasn't so close to graduating I wouldn't be here. I am doing my best to get by considering the nature of my mother's passing. Should you have questions about that, I would be happy to speak about what my family has been through and the toll suicide takes on a family.

ANAT 315 is a class I need to graduate therefore, the last thing I wanted to do was drop it. I don't give up easily and I thought that I could be successful. Unfortunately, my mental health has made that very complicated for me. Our first assessment for ANAT 315 did not take place until October 29th meaning that we were well passed the drop deadline by the time marks were received. Once I began to receive marks, I spoke to my counsellor here at Queen's and we decided together that the best plan would be to keep trying. This would prevent me from having to take an extra semester and allow me to return home to my dad without having anything additional on my plate.

Should you take a look at my transcript you will see that in the rest of my classes I did very well as they were assignment based and did not rely on memorization. If you need confirmation of this I would be very happy to reach out to my professors in my other classes.

Thank you again for your time.
