Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: I am requesting to drop the course, STAT 263, as a result of a concussion I received on Oct. 25th, 2019 due to competing on the Women's Varsity Volleyball Team. The last day to drop a course without academic penalty was on November 1st, which was only 5 days after my concussion, leaving me in no state to make a decision about dropping courses as the recovery time for my concussion was still unknown and my thinking capacity greatly limited. My recovery was much longer than expected and as my participation in each of my fall courses was greatly limited from Oct. 25th till mid-December I had to defer 4 of my exams to the new term. I am currently enrolled in 5 courses this semester and have had 4 exams deferred, leaving me with a handful of demanding courses that I believe will be detrimental to my continued recovery as I return to courses/ studying. My concussion has led me to make the decision to extend my degree an extra semester and by doing so has allowed me the ability to alleviate some of the stress associated with returning to learn. For these reasons, I am appealing to drop Stat 263. Thank you for your time.
