The Associate Dean (Studies)
Queen¿¿s University

Dear Sir/ Madam:

My name is Emma Black, I am a proud 1st year Queen¿¿s Arts and Science student and would like to appeal my SPAN 204 (Fall, 2019) mark.

I took 3 Spanish classes at K.C.V.I. I signed up for SPAN 101 and found the class too easy.
I talked to Dr. Margaret Maliszewska in the department of Languages who said I had to take SPAN 204 with Professor Judit Luengo Martinelli otherwise I would be in ¿¿academic default¿.

This class was way over my head. This 2nd year class was full of Spanish speaking students with Spanish speaking parents from Spanish countries. I attended every class, completed all homework on time but struggled through tests and exams.

I felt that I had no choice but to take this advanced Spanish class. I was full of anxiety and stressed out that the Professor would call on me in class to answer questions and I was unable to approach my Professor for help. I am under the care of a clinical psychologist, Dr. Su Buchanan (she has written a note and sent this in to your office).

Looking back, if I had been interviewed in September to determine my Spanish ability, I might have been put in a different class.

I really want to continue studying Spanish and become trilingual.

I did all of the work to the best of my ability. I am requesting that you please keep my credit but drop the ¿¿D¿ mark, if at all possible.

Thank you for considering my appeal application. I felt like I was forced into this class without any alternative.

Sincerely,

Emma Black
