Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: I am appealing to be enrolled in BIOL206 after the enrollment date. I was not able to enroll in this course prior to this date because of some issues I had meeting the prerequisites. The prerequisite for this course is to achieve a mark of C- or greater in BIOL205. I took BIOL205 last semester but on the day of the final exam, I had to get it accommodated due to an illness. The exam was rescheduled to January 14, 2020. Before doing the makeup exam, my final mark for the course was lower than the required mark as they assumed I received a 0 on the final exam. I spoke to Julie French, the Administrative & Undergraduate program assistant in the Biology Department as well as the Arts & Science Undergraduate Academic Advisors and I was told that upon doing the final exam, I will be enrolled in the course if I received a final grade of C- or greater. I waited from the 14th to the 17th to get an updated mark on SOLUS but the mark remained the same. Although I received my exam mark and I tried to calculate what the final mark would be myself, I was very concerned that I would not get into BIOL206. Therefore, I contacted Julie repeatedly before the last day to add courses. Once that day came, I had no other choice but to enroll in another course instead of BIOL206, which I was still unable to get into. On January 24th, I checked SOLUS to see if there were any updates to my final grade for BIOL205. They finally updated the grade and I received a mark greater than C- meaning I am eligible to enroll in BIOL206. I tried contacting Julie French again and the Arts & Science office but now am told to submit an appeal. This situation is quite upsetting to me as this course is required for my major and could have been avoided entirely if I was attended to by superiors I repeatedly contacted.
